We all want to feel alive, excited, and full of energy. But sometimes, people choose the wrong ways to try to achieve that feeling. Many turn to harmful things like excessive drinking, smoking, drug abuse, pre-marital sex, or even pornography. Often, they don’t think about how these actions can negatively impact their life and future.

Addiction to substances and behaviors has become a major problem in today’s world. People often turn to drugs, alcohol, and other harmful habits because they feel empty, bored, or unmotivated. These addictions are like a quick fix, a way to feel excited or happy. But while they might give a temporary high, they lead to much darker places like depression and hopelessness. Instead of bringing lasting happiness, these things drain a person’s energy and leave them feeling worse than before.

For Christians, falling into these harmful behaviors is especially concerning. God has called us to be “the light of the world and the salt of the earth,” showing others the right way to live. When we allow God’s word and the Holy Spirit to guide us, we can avoid these wrong paths and experience real joy and fulfillment.

The Bible warns us that there are paths that might seem right at first but end in destruction. As Proverbs 27:12 says, “A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” Just because these habits are common doesn’t mean they’re okay. Right and wrong aren’t decided by what the majority does; instead, we must choose what is good and true.

The first step to overcoming these harmful habits is to have a real desire to change. Without a desire to live differently, there’s no motivation to break free. Surrendering to God’s help is key because, on our own, we’re not strong enough to win against addiction. But with God, anything is possible. He is waiting for you to reach out and ask for His help.
