God made everything with a purpose, each thing was created to depend on something else to survive. Plants grow from the ground, fish live in water, and in the same way, we need God as our source. In Genesis 1:27, it says, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Imagine if we walked around with a tag that said, “Hand Crafted by God.” Maybe then, people would be quicker to see that we are God’s creation, made by Him and designed to rely on His presence.

God created the Garden of Eden for this very reason—to have a close family relationship with the first humans. He wanted them to be with Him because He knew that being close to Him was the best way for them to live as He intended. Just like plants can’t survive away from soil and fish need water, we need God’s presence to thrive. Thankfully, because of Jesus, we can come into God’s presence without fear or guilt. Jesus made it possible for us to be close to God again by paying the price for our sins.

Even Jesus, who was both God and man, didn’t live without depending on God. His ministry didn’t begin until the Holy Spirit filled Him. Jesus taught us what it means to live connected to God, always seeking His guidance and strength. Now, because of Jesus, God’s Spirit lives inside anyone who truly believes in Christ. If you’ve accepted Jesus, His Spirit is with you too. Romans 8:9-10 says, “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”

In John 15:5, Jesus says, “…for without me, you can do nothing!” This shows that a true Christian life is one of complete reliance on God. Our prayers, Bible study, and worship all help us reconnect to our true source—God Himself.
