Chemistry: Attraction Beyond the Surface

Attraction is a big part of making connections with others, but sometimes, we get it wrong—especially when it comes to liking someone of the opposite sex. We often focus too much on looks and physical attraction, but these things don’t last and won’t make us truly happy in the long run.

The kind of attraction the Bible talks about is much deeper than just liking someone’s appearance or having a crush. While physical attraction might only focus on how someone looks, true attraction is about loving the whole person. It starts with appreciating their love for Christ and their desire to grow spiritually and personally.

This deeper attraction values a person’s character—their honesty, courage, and strong beliefs. It values the kind of communication where both people can share their true feelings and talk about important things. Physical attraction is still part of it, but it’s seen as a natural addition to the spiritual and emotional connection, not the main thing.

Sometimes, we can be drawn to someone just because of one attractive quality, or we might miss out on a great person because we’re too focused on a small flaw.

It’s important not to settle for a shallow attraction that’s only about looks. Instead, aim to find someone you connect with on every level—mind, body, and spirit. This kind of attraction helps build a relationship that can last through anything.

Wishing you wisdom and good choices as you look for true and lasting love!
